California, Ohio, and Virginia Projects to Find Ways to Reduce Component and Manufacturing Costs. The U.S. Department of Energy today announced nearly $7 million over five years for independent cost analyses that will support research and development efforts for fuel cells and hydrogen storage systems.
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - Ovonic Battery Company, Inc. (OBC) a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD) (Nasdaq:ENER), announced it has extended its license agreement with GS Yuasa International Ltd., in which OBC is granting GS Yuasa a license to use nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) technology developed and patented by OBC.
DENVER - ADA Technologies, Inc. (ADA) received a $750,000 contract from the U.S. Air Force for research on an innovative nanomaterial-enabled power system for use in small to micro Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Specifically, ADA will create a high performance, cost effective and easy-to-manufacture lithium-ion battery that meets the power generation and storage requirements of military UAS. The Phase II research will be performed in collaboration with SouthWest NanoTechnologies (Norman, OK) and a major lithium-ion battery manufacturer.
Livermore, Calif. - A new hydrogen research initiative based in Japan will leverage Department of Energy (DOE)-funded hydrogen research at Sandia National Laboratories' California site and will likely become the first research effort to be rolled into a broader laboratory research umbrella aimed at increasing the laboratories' hydrogen partnerships domestically and abroad.
Lion Energy has developed a battery in the flow category which has major performance and cost advantages over the existing batteries and which could play an important role in distributed generation and allow the large scale proliferation of renewable intermittent power technologies.
